Classroom Expecations

The class is in session from 9am-3pm Monday through Thursday. It is expected that you will be in attendance, on time and in your uniform.

Lunch will be held from 12pm-1pm, however this time is subject to change depending on the events of the day.

Proper uniform includes a school issued scrub set with close toed shoes. A long sleeve shirt may be worn under your school issued scrub top if you are prone to cold. You are also permitted to wear a scrub jacket with the school issued scrub set underneath.

With your education being of utmost importance, it is strongly recommended that you schedule any appointments, work commitments, errands or any other obligations outside the hours of 9am-3pm, Monday through Thursday.

Class hours that are missed are required to be made up. Make up hours are scheduled on Friday from 9am-3pm with Instructor Kassidy Copell. You must send an email with the dates and times you will be attending.

If hours are not completed by the beginning of Module 206, you will not be allowed to take your certification exam or begin your externship until missing hours are made up.

Classroom etiquette begins upon arrival on campus. Every student is expected to maintain an attitude that supports professionalism and respect. Teamwork is essential to the success the class, and each student individually. All students are being evaluated at all times on their performance, professionalism, and ability to listen and follow instructions, as well as their medical assistant knowledge and technical skills.

Students should have a notebook, pen, pencil, highlighter, and access to the online material via a school laptop or personal laptop or tablet.

Teamwork is a required part of this program. Partners may be randomly assigned via a team generator. This allows for a variety of knowledge to be gained due to the differences in each person's anatomy, cultures, and backgrounds.

Solo study will be required to successfully pass your certification exam. While we do our best not to assign homework, it does happen as campus and class schedules dictate. Reading chapters in advance as assigned is required. Chapter readings will be assigned every Thursday and must be completed by Monday at 9:00am.

School staff will monitor whether online readings, assignments, assessments, quizzes, etcetera, are being completed within the required time frame.

Tables are to be cleared off and sanitized before and after conducting clinical skills in the classroom.  Tables and chairs are to be sanitized before you leave at the end of each day.

Working in healthcare will bring you into contact with many uncomfortable situations. At times and as it applies to the current unit of study, videos or clips may be shown that feature traumatic or controversial events. It is completely within your right to quietly and respectfully step out of the classroom for the duration of any presentation, video or topic, without discrimination or judgement.

Lab / Practice Clinic / Skill Check Expectations

Lab participation and skills checks are required and non-negotiable. Students will perform all the clinical skill sets necessary for completion of the medical assistant course when they are directed to do so.

Proper procedures and safety are of the utmost importance when conducting labs, practice clinic exercises and skill check offs.

Students are required to be in their school issued scrubs, with hair pulled back and out of your face. You may not wear dangly jewelry. Closed toe shoes are the only appropriate footwear for a skill check off day. If you are not dressed appropriately, you will not be allowed to complete your skills check off and will have to schedule a time outside of class to complete your check off.

Biohazardous waste is to be disposed of following proper protocols. If it is an item with bodily fluids (blood, urine, saliva, etc.) it is to be disposed of in the red biohazardous waste container. All needles, lancets, capillary refill tubes and used hubs are to be placed into a sharp's container immediately after use. Sweaty, gloves, non-bloody cotton balls, chucks with ordinary body fluids, and supply packaging may be thrown into a trash can.

Injections and venipunctures will not be performed on other students. Due to the hazards and liabilities of practicing on human subjects, practice injections and blood draws will only be performed on mannequin equipment.

Should you miss a lab, it is your responsibility to schedule a time with the instructor to complete the clinical skills check or lab that was missed. Upon completion of the program, each student will have completed all skills check offs for each clinical procedure, with a 90 or above.
